Special Transports to Truth STETL FEST edition

This newsletter highlights a very important event for Transports To Truth and our Placzek family members. For the past 5 years, the city of Brno, CZ has hosted an annual Jewish cultural event called STETL FEST for 5 days at the end of August. Approximately 12,000 people from all over the world attend this festival that features lectures, film screenings, musical performances, the laying of Stolpersteine stones, tours of Villas, and many other activities for families, children and young people.

This year's theme for the festival was Returns and 5 prominent Jewish families from Brno were invited to be honored at the STETL FEST. The Placzeks (Rabbis Abraham and Baruch Placzek were the Chief Rabbis of Moravia and Karen's great-great grandparents) were one of the 5 families featured and over 50 Placzek descendants gathered from around the world to attend the events. For many of them, this was the first time they ever came to Brno.

Highlights for the Placzeks: Laying 11 Stopelsteine for our family members; celebrating the opening of the Villa Plazcek Hotel; Screening the new film Daisy and Erika; Learning about our famous family members; Visiting the site of the Great Synagogue and the unveiling of the new street name; The launch of the new book by Barbara Dočkalová, "Placzek: Rabbis, Scientists and Witnesses to History" and all the time in between to meet new family members and absorb the beauty of Brno and its welcoming and friendly citizens.
